of 5— Create a Claude Project for Prior Auth
What you'll accomplish
By the end of this guide, you'll have Claude set up as a dedicated prior authorization specialist with your clinic's information, insurer-specific language preferences, and your most common diagnoses pre-loaded. Instead of spending 30–45 minutes per auth letter, you'll produce professional, insurer-tailored letters in under 10 minutes.
What you'll need
- A free Claude account at claude.ai (Claude Pro at $20/month gives longer context and priority access)
- 30–45 minutes to set up your project and templates
- A list of your 5 most common insurers (Medicare, Aetna, BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, etc.)
- Time needed: 45-60 minutes setup; 5-10 minutes per auth letter ongoing
- Cost: Free (Claude.ai) or $20/mo for Claude Pro
How-To Guide: Build a Prior Authorization Letter System with Claude
Step 1: Create a Claude Project for Prior Auth
- Go to claude.ai and log in
- Click "Projects" in the left sidebar (or the Projects icon)
- Click "New Project"
- Name it: "PT Prior Authorization System"
- In the Project Instructions box, enter your clinic context
What you should see: A new project workspace with a persistent instructions field at the top.
Troubleshooting: If you don't see "Projects," it may not be in your plan tier. Free Claude accounts have project access; if unavailable, use Claude's "Custom Instructions" setting instead.
